hiatus

I am not going to be posting much for a little while. My health and energy is low and I am taking the time to get better before returning to writing.

You deserve my best effort not something I half way throw together just to have a new post.

Thank you for bearing with me during this time.

Our Childrens Future will be what?

Of all the wonderful things accomplished and advanced in the last 30 to 40 years, who knows what will be accomplished in the next 30 to 40 years.
So to me the question becomes how do we prepare our children for the things we can't imagine yet? The answer, to me, is to encourage creativity, an inquisitive mind, curiosity and an open mind.
Here are some of the advances we have made in that time frame.
Can you remember how these changed everything?

Internet, broadband, WWW (browser and html)
PC/laptop computers
Mobile phones
E-mail
DNA testing and sequencing/Human genome mapping
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Microprocessors
Fiber optics
Office software (spreadsheets, word processors)
Non-invasive laser/robotic surgery (laparoscopy)
Open source software and services (e.g., Linux, Wikipedia)
Light emitting diodes
Liquid crystal display (LCD)
GPS systems
Online shopping/ecommerce/auctions (e.g., eBay)
Media file compression (jpeg, mpeg, mp3)
Microfinance
Photovoltaic Solar Energy
Large scale wind turbines
Social networking via the Internet
Graphic user interface (GUI)
Digital photography/videography
RFID and applications (e.g., EZ Pass)
Genetically modified plants
Bio fuels
Bar codes and scanners
ATMs
Stents
SRAM flash memory
Anti retroviral treatment for AIDS

Nurturing your Child's Dreams and Spirit

Things I learned from Sir Ken Roberts Ted talks.

What are your child's talent? interests? not the superficial ones but the real ones.
what is it that excites them to do.
to nurture it is our goal as parents & homeschool teachers
however it takes looking for it, exposing kids to different things. To museums, car shows, different kinds of music, dancing, martial arts, cooking, business, firemen, police, emts, medicine, science, art,and oh so much more.
what upon scratching the surface of do they want to know more and more or do more and more.

there was a young man who as a child decided he wanted to be a fireman.
which was encouraged until high school when a teacher told him it was a waste of his potential.
he ignored him and became one anyway.
A few years later he responding to a car accident and guess who it was.
He freed the man, performed cpr and saved that mans life. Saved the wife too.
He became what he was meant to be and was there when needed by the very man who told him being a fireman was a waste of his talents...... think the teacher might have changed his mind.
now but what we need to learn from this story is simple

Encourage and support our children in what they are passionate about.
They know what that is and we don't need to confuse them. If they are unsure Then we can go about introducing things to see if any of them resonate with the child but Never push what we want on them. It is their life and their chance to make their personal mark.
We want the best for them the best paying the most secure jobs and careers but that might not be what is best for them.
We want them to have a job and life that they are excited to wake up to not one they are just marking the time and miserable in.

Communities need and thrive on a diversity of talents.
We need lots of people with different talents and skills to make it all work.

We have adopted a fast food style public education everything is standardized.

we need a education system that is more personalized.
Group children with other kids on their skill and learning style not age.
kids that learn by visuals best together in a class that teaches that way.
kids that learn best alone, together but  cubicles will work wonders for these kids.
kids that learn best audibly be taught audibly,
and people that learn by doing or moving being taught that way.
test the kids to see how they learn and teach them that way not by age.

Remember tread softly lest you trample your childs dreams or spirit.

How to Homeschool In Texas class

I will be MIA from the blog for a few days. I am writing up a class on how to Homeschool children in Texas.

I am getting asked frequently

*How do you move from public school to homeschool?

*What if I am not knowledgeable on certain subjects to help my child with them?

*What are the laws and requirements to homeschool in Texas?

*I work so how can I possibly homeschool?

*Where do you get the books and such?

I will be answering all of these and more in the class. However for now I need to type it all up, Find a place to hold the class, advertise the class, and such.

Relaxing and Staying Warm for the Weekend

We have holed up this weekend, its cold and there is snow outside.

Well some days are below 30 degrees and others are around 70 degrees in the same week.

I am not a fan of the cold by any stretch of the imagination.

Kids went outside for a few minutes to explore the snow on Friday. They Loved it! Tabby stayed until her hands hurt from the cold and then screamed when we made her come in to warm up.

We have been watching movies and alternating comfort food and pizza delivery.

We had chips and sandwiches for lunch then we had homemade Pot Pie for supper.

I got really excited tonight when I found out about the new candle coming out next week for April Fools Day from Jewelry in Candles. Grand prize for this candle is .An all expenses paid vacation for 2 to Disney World in Orlando FL. Airfare, on resort room, meal plan and park tickets!

Tomorrow is Church for the big kids while Mommy spends quality time with Tabby. She is still scared of being in small rooms with strangers ex. nursery and can't sit still long enough for Big Church.

I will be getting my grocery list and making list of where all I need to go to go finish paying bills and running errands on Monday.

Monday we will be picking up on our ASL lessons from Friday. We are trying to get the kids and Mommy to where we can have a No talking day, ASL only.

We ordered in new workbooks as Acheron and Ilyana have almost finished the ones they just got. They Love to finish them as fast as they can so they can have more free learning days until the new ones arrive.
